A boring dinner

"RING RING RING" I woke up by the ringings of my house phone... i looked at the clock, it was 1130am... hmm i wonder who is calling the house at this time? i answered the call in my blur and gorgy voice, "hello?" A voice answered me, "Ya still sleeping ah? Thought ya suppose to be out exercising now?" It was Chris, my "sister" in the pact we made during the bangkok trip... I was suppose to drop 8 sizes down and he was suppose to get a size pac.. challenging rite? and the winner gets a free stay at metropolitan (bangkok) and 5000baht of shopping money! the bet is big hence the challenge is also a tough one...

Apparently, an insurance agent, a guy by the name of marcus, who did a bad job at speaking English with an accent, was trying his best to convince chris that he should get a policy... Chris was woken up by this call and though he tried telling the guy that he's not interested, Marcus refused to give up... After 5mins of "NO, i'm not interested. No, i have friends who are in AIA and if i need any financial advise, i will go to them, No... Just plain NO" the guy left it as that but ended off with sending chris his hp no and said if he is ever interested, Chris can call him... Sighh.. i think that fellow must be very desperate for clients cos its monday morning and usually from what i know about their work schedule (i nearly became an insurance agent too ya know) monday mornings are either meetings, or doing col calls on doors or even doing roadshows, telemarketing is usually done at night.. seldom done in the day for it is inconvenient to talk to the person during the day. Sad case...

Shortly after he called, Jo called saying that she has to do an extra shift today cos 2 of he colleagues called in on MC and there was no one doing the afternoon shift, so she has no choice but to do another 8hours... damn tiring loh, 16hours of work and she started at 7am... Was suppose to meet her and weiping for dinner initially so dinner was cancelled..

Actually i had a company/section dinner, Welcome cum Farewell for New and Ex staff of our division on that day.. Just that i was not really keen on going even though it was going to be at rice table and the food has been paid for.. so i thought might as well meet weiping and jo for dinner... BUT after a call with my colleague, i decided to go afterall, cos my AD, DD and D will be there too. better keep my promise on the dinner lah. this is the 2nd time i'm having this kind of dinner at rice table.. yes it is halal, but seriously i don't really think much about the food there... the food taste the same after a while cos they use the same sauce for some of the dishes... my only consolation is the chicken satay... my one and only fav amongst the many many dishes on the table.. even typing it out now, makes me wanna eat satay now.

I left the dinner at 8.30pm and joined chris and his friends for KTV at Partyworld cos i did not want to stay throughout the dinner. No point waiting for everyone to finish cos the early birds, 6 of us reached at 7pm and the rest at 7.30pm... no need to penalised those who reached early right? So i left after having my fill and took off to KTV.. Fidah left the same time as me for she too didn't want to stay till it ends. Hence we left together, but one of our ex colleague stopped her outside saying that he wants to speak with her. Then he taled about the break in that the club had on V day and gave her a piece of his thoughts on how the club should be run etc.. i can sense that fidah was not exactly comfortable talking about this issue with him for he is afterall, an ex staff of the club who has left the club for 1 year. When you leave, leave all the baggage behind. So i just made a very mild comment, "Vincent, you left already, let the pple after you, take care of things" He was immediately defensive.. and after a while, i just told fidah that i'm in a BIG rush, would like to go off already.. that's how it managed to stop a conversation that she wasn't interested in.. heehee all thanks to me lah..

KTV with Chris's friends was fun, but they left at 9.30pm saying that they are meeting other schoolmates... Apparently they went to Acid bar to chill out after meeting up... So we joined them after that.. it was a very nice bar with live band and the guy who was singing sounded so good! loved his voice.. very nice.. should have asked fidah to join me cos she would definitely love the band.. Chris's schoolmates was nice and friendly but still i'm the odd ball of the group.. so it was hard trying not to be uncomfortable... thank goodness there was the live band cos it kept my ears attentioned to the songs he was singing... I realised that chris seems to be the centre of attention or maybe he is able to get the group talking together, as in a conversation.. can observe the kind of dynamics of the group... it was rather interesting for i have not done this for a long time. putting myself out of the picture and really observe group dynamics.. Put my observation skills to use.. my long lost social work concepts and group work dynamics just came rushing back from my memories.. it was a good feeling of being to use what i learnt back then.. putting what i learn in books into real situations has always been a way for me to know that ive not forgotten entirely the skills and concepts passed from my lecturers and mentors...

I realised i really like social work, really like working with people and be able to put my skills to use.. i wanna learn more.. will a desk bound job be suitable for me, my answer is still no.. i need to move around and meet people all the time, but not all corporate people all the time cos conversation topics can be so so so so boring.. if you get what i mean...

wednesday is the interview.. i hope i can do well in it.. but then i may not take up the job lah.. see how...
